Vision Statement

Liberty in North Korea (LiNK) is a non-governmental organization seeking to empower the North Korean people as leaders of the rising human rights movement within and without North Korea. Along with safely escorting refugees through a modern underground railroad and helping them resettle in South Korea or America, LiNK also pursues broader goals of raising awareness of the North Korean human rights crisis and promoting a spirit of activism among people around the globe. It operates solely through donations and funds from local chapters and rescue teams.

Rescue Teams are student and community groups located around the world. We are committed to standing with the North Korean people as they overcome one of the greatest challenges facing humanity. We hope to raise funds to rescue North Korean refugees and encourage our family and friends to join the movement. From hosting creative events in our communities to fundraising online, Rescue Teams are at the forefront of this movement. Already, more than 100 rescue teams are actively raising funds from 16 countries worldwide, including schools like Columbia university, the university of Michigan, Boston University, and some international schools in South Korea like YISS and KIS.

The goal of the LiNK KISJ rescue team is to raise awareness of the human rights crisis in North Korea through the avenue of our campus and outside. To achieve this goal, we will hold fundraising events to raise money that will go to the rescue of North Korean defectors, attempting to escape the bonds of the oppressive government.

Joseph Buric

My name is Joseph Buric, club supervisor of LiNK KISJ. My role is to help the club president and other club leaders facilitate their projects to achieve LiNK KISJ’s goals: advocating for and improving the lives of North Korean refugees worldwide and in North Korea. I was happy to accept the invitation to supervise LiNK KISJ because humanitarian efforts are one of the most worthwhile causes for students to engage in and can grow into a lifelong passion. Making change is difficult, and I hope to do my best to support students as they develop and create meaningful projects and organize events and activities to increase visibility for North Koreans who need help and attention from the world-at-large
